What Happens During a Newborn Session & What’s Included

Our newborn photography sessions are thoughtfully designed to provide a calm, stress-free experience for both baby and parents — while creating timeless, professionally styled portraits you'll cherish forever.

At LiMia Photography in Brackenfell, Cape Town, our sessions are all-inclusive, meaning everything you need is provided. You simply arrive, relax, and let us take care of the rest.

What’s Included:

  • props, wraps, blankets, hats, headbands, and baskets
    preferred colours and aesthetic
  • natural, curled-up positions that highlight their tiny features
  • professionally edited, high-resolution images

Session Length:

Each session lasts around 2 to 3 hours, allowing ample time for breaks while keeping baby calm and comfortable.

This way, we can focus on capturing the gentle innocence and unique beauty of your little one during their earliest days.

When Should I Book My Newborn Session?

Booking your newborn photography session in advance is the best way to ensure you don’t miss out on capturing those fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime moments of your baby’s first days.

Ideally, sessions should be scheduled during your pregnancy — anytime after your 20-week scan is perfect. Once you have your estimated due date, we’ll pencil you into our calendar, ensuring a spot within the ideal timeframe (between 5 days and 3 weeks after birth).

Because we only accept a limited number of newborn sessions per month to allow for flexibility with early or late arrivals, early booking is highly recommended.

Once your baby arrives, we’ll confirm your final session date — simple and stress-free.

What if My Baby Arrives Early or Late?

We completely understand that babies don’t always stick to the schedule — and that’s absolutely okay!

At LiMia Photography, we’re fully prepared to accommodate both early and late arrivals. Once you’ve booked your newborn session, we reserve a flexible spot around your due date. The most important step is to let us know as soon as your baby is born, so we can adjust your session timing accordingly.

We aim to photograph newborns between 5 and 21 days old, when they’re still sleepy and curled — ideal for those dreamy poses. However, we know that each baby’s journey is unique.

If your little one needs extra time in the hospital or special care, please don’t worry. We’re happy to work with you to find the perfect time for your session once your baby is ready. Our goal is always to create beautiful, meaningful portraits, no matter the timeline.
